Atheists

Atheists deny the existence of god. The word atheism comes from the Greek word atheos which means "without God."
Atheism is different from agnosticism or the nonreligious, who believe one cannot know whether God exists or not. Agnosticism is far more common than atheism.
In some religious contexts, "atheism" means denying the state religion. In the time of the Roman Empire, "atheism" meant denying Greek or Roman polytheistic views, or emperor-worship.
Some religions, such as Buddhism, are generally atheistic as well since they deny a transcendent supernatural Being.
