[edit] Brief summary description
- The Global Recordings Network has recorded gospel messages and/or basic Bible teaching in over 5725 languages (April 2008.
[edit] Vision
- The Vision of GRN is that people might hear and understand God's word in their heart language - especially those who are oral communicators and those who do not have Scriptures in a form they can access. We do this by producing culturally appropriate audio and audio-visual materials.
[edit] Good News - Out Loud!
Hand wind MP3 digital audio player
- First prototype of the new solid state player
- For over 60 years Global Recordings Network has produced audio gospel messages in the heart languages of the people of our world. More than 5650 languages and dialects have been recorded so far, with particular priority given to oral societies and minority language groups.
- They have also placed 4,515 of these languages on their web site for free listening or downloading to the MP3 of the hearer.
- But people can't hear these messages unless they have the means to play them.
- Many years ago, GRN developed and produced hand wind record players. Later, as technology changed, they developed hand wind cassette players. Now, they are about to release a hand wind MP3 digital audio player, with built in generator, amplifier and speaker. February 08 will start the field testing. See for more details: MP3 Player
[edit] 10K CHALLENGE
- The faith goal is to have audio Bible stories and teaching prepared, produced and available in 10,000 languages and dialects spoken in the world today. Currently there are presentations in 5,800 languages and dialects, so we have a long way to go. And we know that "business as usual" will not get it done! Pray that many will take up the challenge of sponsoring recordings for Unreached People Groups. Those partners who wish to sponsor a group will have a great opportunity to do something for people who have never heard the gospel. For more information, see GRN. GRN wants more Unreached People Groups to have access to the gospel as soon as possible. This is without a doubt a major undertaking and one that is beyond us all humanly-speaking. GRN is optimistic though because they know that with God nothing is impossible. The goal is line in with His heart that all peoples should hear that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners.
[edit] Prayer points of the 10k Challenge
- a) Spiritual Breakthroughs that will banish all apathy and mindsets that are convinced it cannot be done.
- b) Advancement into new language groups - Many are in the grip of Satan, so it will not be easy.
- c) Effective Planning at every level - from those who see the big picture to those on the front lines
- d) Wise stewardship of resources - People are giving and we want to make every cent count.
- e) More people with a "can do" attitude, willing to work long and hard - trusting God for strength
- f) Abundant resources - including finance, workers, equipment, training, transport, technical know-how, etc.
- g) Open doors - The scripture reminds us that when God opens a door, no man can shut it.
[edit] Challenges in the daily work in Africa
- In Africa GRN has seven centers and 11 bases/agents. They are privileged to have many wonderfully committed co-workers dedicated to seeing God’s Kingdom extended. Many of them have to contend with daily work conditions that would greatly frustrate most of others. Power outages often allow only two hours of “on” time each day. Internet connections are slow and unreliable. Many contend with poor economies and some have had civil wars to live through. Throw into the mix dust and heat and all of these things make running a center difficult – especially for the type of work where reliable power and dust-free environments are needed for audio recording work.
- There is much recording and distribution work still to be done on the African continent and they want to see their centers and bases better equipped. GRN is committed to doing whatever it can to provide better facilities. It may mean moving some offices to more expensive parts of their towns where electricity and Internet connections are more reliable. It may mean purchasing generators to keep the electricity flowing. It may mean investing resources on air conditioning for our studios and for hi-speed reliable Internet connections.
[edit] On Assignment in Siberia
- God has given us a dear young couple, Tim and Iris, whose hearts are for the people of Siberia. While most of our recording teams tend to work in the warm climates, Tim and Iris, along with the rest of the Siberian population are struggling through one of the coldest winters on record, with temperatures often around 40 below. Here they share their burden for Siberia and the recording work:
- When we think of Siberia, we usually think of vast frozen areas of land, bears and wolves, labour prisons and vodka. Yes-it is all that and more. Siberia has more than sixty people groups and over 25 million inhabitants. Because of being under Soviet rule for so long, many of the natives resent the Russians and their language. But the only Bible available to them is in Russian. So how can they accept the good news when it is in the language of their enemies?
- For this reason we are burdened to record the Gospel in all of the Siberian languages so that the people will be more accepting of the message because it will be in their languages rather than in Russian. But where do we start?
- Last July we met a godly couple in the USA who knew missionaries working among the Tuva people. We took their names and added them to our list of contacts. In August, we got an email from a student in Tuva asking for our help in starting a Christian student movement at his university. Two weeks later, on the tram, we hear some people speaking a strange sounding language. We went up to them and asked where they were from. Imagine our surprise when they answered "We are from Tuva." We invited them over for supper and learned a lot from them about the people of Tuva, most of whom are Buddhist/Shamanistic.
God moves and we follow.
- Believing then that the Tuva people should be our initial focus, we wrote the student who had emailed us and asked if he could help us with recording the Tuvan language. He responded by saying that the best language helper that we could ever dream of was coming to our city in Siberia for a weekend conference at our very own church! Just a coincidence? No, we believe it was God orchestrating events.
- So we invited this lady, Olga, for lunch and shared with her the vision that God had laid on our hearts. Olga got excited and promised to help us. We planned to go to Tuva in December 07 to do the recordings. But then the door closed soon after. We heard that Olga was in hospital with serious heart problems. Now we will have to wait until the Siberian winter ends for us to go there.
- Our hearts are burdened for the Tuva people. May this setback turn out to be a stepping stone for God to do greater things among them.
- We long to see every people group in Siberia have the Gospel message in their own language. Please pray for sensitivity to the voice of God as He leads and we follow. Thank you for joining us in this battle.
[edit] Thailand
- During 2007 the GRN Thailand team has been building relationships with these people groups: Chong, MPI, Nyaw, Nyeu, Phunoi, Saek, Tonga, Ugong, and Yoy. There is a need for effective recordings to be made that will communicate the message of hope.
[edit] Latin America
- GRN is asking the Lord of the Harvest for ten new recordists for Latin America where as many as 500 languages still have no gospel recordings. There are possibly 300 more dialects of those languages that may also need their own recordings.
[edit] Peru
- GRN is grateful for their recording team of two ladies in Peru, Elda Arguello from Argentina and Veronica Jacinto from Mexico. They have been very active for many years recording Bible stories and distributing message tapes to some of the least-reached peoples of Peru. Their work has taken them to villages high up in the Andes and to remote groups living along the many tributaries of the Amazon Basin. Travel is a constant challenge, especially the carrying of their mobile recording equipment and supplies.
[edit] Internet
- The Internet has become a major tool for evangelism today. It reaches into nearly every country in the world and goes to places where missionaries cannot. GRN now has more than 5000 gospel messages in 3600 languages available for download. May many of these messages be copied to cassettes, CDs, laptops, iPods and mp3 players.

[edit] Saber hand-wind digital audio player
- In Australia GRN sets up the assembly line for the new Saber hand-wind digital audio player. This is a major task as parts are manufactured overseas in readiness for assembling by a team of volunteers.
