[edit] Cluster Nubian
[edit] Peoples of this cluster:
- The Nubians are a distinct linguistic, social and religious group. They are mainly located in Southern Egypt and Northern Sudan. As such they are still a least reached people group in the sense that they have no native Nubian church. They are altogether numbering between 500 000 and 1 000 000 people. The capital city is called Dongola with approximately 25 000 inhabitants, surrounded by many villages. It is the capital of the Northern Sudan district. The population is a mixture of Arabs and Nubians. The vision is to start a Church Planting Movement among the Nubian people through God's grace.
- There are 70,000 Nyimang Nubians living in Sudan. These non-Arabs managed to survive the encroachment of the Ottoman Empire by seeking refuge in remote areas along the Nile River. Though many turned to Christ in the sixth century, Islam arrived in the l300s. Today, nearly all Nubians are Muslim. Many also hold Animistic beliefs, including the worship of the Nile River as a source of health and fertility.
- The Nubians are facing extinction. The Islamic government of Sudan is quietly, yet effectively eradicating them. Aside from blatant attacks, the government has been building dams to evict them from their homeland, and continues to disrupt lines of transportation that link Nubia with the rest of the nation.
- The Nyimangs do not have the Bible or the JESUS Film in their heart language. They are truly a people in need of urgent spiritual and physical help.
- Prayer Requests
- Pray for God to come to the rescue of the Nyimang Nubians.
- Ask Him to send workers, His Word, and the JESUS Film to these marginalized people.
- Pray for Him to arise as their Defender, protecting them from the violence of government abuse and freeing them from the spiritual bondage of folk Islam.
